The Case for One Completely Impractical Bag
A good collection needs sensible bags. It also needs at least one that makes very little sense.
1 minute read

Not every bag needs to work for travel, office days, weekends and dinner. Sometimes the point is simply that you love it.
Practicality can become repetitive
If every purchase is judged by versatility, collections can start to look very similar. Another neutral shoulder bag.
Another black tote. Another structured top handle. Useful, yes. Memorable, maybe not.
The impractical bag adds personality
This is where colour, texture and unusual shapes become interesting.
Think:
A red evening bag.
A heavily embellished piece.
A tiny top handle.
A novelty shape.
Something in metallic leather.
A colour you would never normally buy.
These are often the bags that change an outfit most.
It does not need to work with everything
That is the point. If a bag only works with three outfits but makes all three much better, it still has a role.
Not every piece in a collection needs to earn its place through frequency. Sometimes joy is enough.
The best collections have contrast
A wardrobe full of practical bags can feel safe. A wildcard creates tension.
It makes the collection feel personal rather than purely functional. It also gives you something to reach for when you want the outfit to feel more expressive.
Buy the one that makes you smile
You probably already know which bag this is. It is the one you keep looking at even though you know it is not sensible. That may be exactly why it belongs in your collection.
